Singapore - A Singapore court Thursday sentenced a Cambodian management student to three months in jail for outraging the modesty of two women, media reports said. Chhuon Ratana, 20, had pleaded guilty to squeezing the breasts of two women at a club in Singapore's popular nightlife area Clarke Quay in May last year.
Although both victims had received compensation of 8,000 Singapore dollars (5,500 US dollars) each, the judge said a short term in jail would teach the student not to break the law again, the online edition of the Straits Times newspaper reported.
Chhuon's lawyer argued that a punishment in Singapore would be inexpedient, as his elders back home would impose a penalty on him according to traditional Cambodian practices, which would include the 20-year-old becoming a monk for six months to a year.
But the judge felt that the student should be punished for his behaviour by a Singapore court, the report said.

This is a nationwide syndrome. What a waste!
I have met or seen several youngsters from rich and powerful people [Hun Sen cronies] in Cambodia who come to study abroad. Unlike their compatriots who came to the West in the 80’s, these kids are inept and have neither desire nor motivation to study. They waste their times venturing in the bad side of the Western civilization. All they see is that when they return to Cambodia they will use the power or authority of their parent to abuse and break the laws.
Well done, Singapore! Please discipline this young man while he’s serving his time. Make him get up at 5:00AM, and make him worked like he’s in a military boot camp. If you can do that, Khmer people would really appreciate it!

While your statement holds some truth to the fact that some rich kids from Cambodia behave badly, you are absolutely wrong in generalizing that every single one of the so-called children from the rich and powerful families are the same. I know it is hard for you growing up in America to go beyond generalization since you are raised up to do it innately. Majority of American generalize on everything. That is why you have so much racism in this culture.
Let me remind you well-behaved person that the Khmer kids that come to America in the 80's that you speak so highly off aren't all that great, considering that fact that many of whom turned into gangs, rob, and exploit their own Khmer people in their community and the neighbors as well.
You want proof. See how many Cambodian gangs deported and many more on the way to Cambodia? I don't think the kids from rich family and the powerful are those that are deported back. So who are those gangs huh? Your family, friends, and cousins that you speak so highly of?
Look in the mirror and see your own flaws before judging others.
